42CrMo4 and 34CrMo4 are alloy structural steels, their main differences are chemical composition and mechanical properties, here's how they compare:

1. Chemical composition:
42CrMo4: C (carbon) 0.38%-0.45%, Si(Silicon) s0.40%, Mn (manganese) 0.60%-0.90%,
Cr (Chromium) 0.90%-1.20%, Mo (molybdenum) 0.15%0.25%, the rest is Fe (iron) and unavoidable impurities.
34CrMo4: C (carbon) 0.30%-0.40%, Si(Silicon) s0.40%, Mn (manganese) 0.60%-0.90%,
Cr (Chromium) 0.80%-1.10%, Mo (molybdenum) 0.15%0.25%, the rest is Fe (iron) and unavoidable impurities.
It can be seen that 42CrMo4 has a slightly higher carbon content than 34CrMo4, which may result in higher hardness after quenching and tempering.

At the same time, the chromium content of 42CrMo4 is also slightly higher than 34CrMo4, which helps to improve the corrosion resistance of the steel.

2. Mechanical properties:
42CrMo4: Tensile strength ≥980MPa, yield strength 2830MPa, elongation ≥12%, impact toughness (-40°℃) 47J/cm2.
34CrMo4: Tensile strength ≥900MPa, yield strength ≥750MPa, elongation ≥12%, impact toughness (-40°℃) 47/cm2

It can be seen that the tensile and yield strength of 42CrMo4 is slightly higher than that of 34CrMo4, which makes it more advantageous in certain applications where higher strength is required. However, both steels have the same elongation and impact toughness, indicating that they are similar in terms of toughness and impact resistance.
